The Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council (MSCTC) approved one hundred sixty-hour (160-hour) Local Corrections Officer Academy for correctional personnel supervising inmates in county jails. The Academy is required within one year of hire or for new hires into Sheriff's Office Correctional facilities as a Local Corrections Officer. The Academy is being offered by North Central Michigan College, an approved educational partner. The Academies are conducted by instructors who are certified by the MSCTC.
