Discover creative winter planter ideas that seamlessly transition into spring. Learn how to use evergreen plants to add color and texture, work with broadleaf evergreens, and incorporate dried or cut plant material to enhance your garden's aesthetic.

Winter Interest in the Garden

Find out what to plant for maximum winter impact and learn the best practices for trimming and shaping your plants now versus in the spring to ensure a visually appealing garden throughout the winter months.

Height, Color, & Texture

We’ll explore how plant selection, including height, color & texture impact the overall look of your garden even in the winter months. We'll delve into working with broadleaf and evergreen color and texture to create a harmonious and eye-catching garden design.

    Kim Seelinger is a Master Gardener, certified through Michigan State University in 2002. Kim has worked in several retail greenhouses and has developed and maintained many public and private gardens. She also does some residential landscape design, consulting & maintenance. Her specialty is creating layered landscapes for multi-season interest, using leaf color and texture to create drama. “Gardening is my passion—I love getting my hands dirty, and I truly believe that an hour in the garden puts life’s problems in perspective.”

    Kim is also an avid skier and cyclist who spends her time skiing in the mountains every winter and is a certified ski instructor. She also spends many hours on her bike in northern Michigan in the summertime.
