There is good news in the long search for affordable housing in Emmet County. The 60-unit Lofts at Lumber Square in Petoskey for middle-income workers is nearing completion. The Meadowlands, a 38-unit mixed-income subdivision of modular homes near Alanson, is filling up with new homeowners committed to adding “sweat equity” to their investments. Two other major projects are also well underway: Pine Pond in Bear Creek Township and The Block at Petoskey on the Bear River. David “DJ” Jones, executive director of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation will explain the foundation’s long journey to bring success to the Lofts. Kyle Ulrich of Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity will explain his organization’s strategy to bring affordable new homes to the Meadowlands.
