Once highly abundant in cold water streams in the northern Lower Peninsula, Arctic Grayling were in trouble in the 1880s and gone by 1936. For decades, numerous strategies to bring them back ended in failure. Ed Eisch, assistant chief of the fisheries division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, has long been involved in the search for a solution. He will explain the collaborative effort now underway with nearly 50 partners that may finally be the answer. Ed is a 36-year veteran of the DNR and has worked in various capacities at the three state fish hatcheries in northern Lower Michigan.
