Instructors:
Lisa Burris, Petoskey Schools
Lisa Burris is a Co-Coach of Petoskey Middle School’s Geeks, Gears and Gadgets Robotics Teams. She is also a Secretary at Petoskey Middle School. Lisa is a graduate of Michigan State University School of Social Work and is currently working on her Masters in Special Education at Western Michigan University. Lisa understands the value of kids exploring STEM concepts through play, so she volunteers in all levels of FIRST robotics. She loves to help her students document and discuss what they’ve learned. She is a cat and a dog person, who enjoys gardening, mountain biking, and playing video games. One of her favorite accomplishments is having a poem published in ‘Babybug’ magazine about biking with her own children when they were younger. Lisa is looking forward to another great summer with the campers at NCMC!
Karen Drake, NCMC Mathematics Faculty
Karen Drake has been a Mathematics Instructor at North Central Michigan College since 1999. Her first robotics competition was the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) in June 1993. She assisted with the IGVC until moving to Petoskey in 1999. She became a FIRST Mentor in 2015 with FTC team G3 Geeks, Gears, and Gadgets then switched to FRC Petoskey Paladins in 2017. Although not a LEGO League Mentor, she has worked as a volunteer for their competitions.
