Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Dispelling Myths & Creating Paths to Recovery

1 in 40 people will experience Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) at some point in their lifetime. Although many people have some idea of what OCD can look like, they are misconceptions related to the variety and invisible symptoms of OCD. Although a painful disorder, OCD is highly treatable, and this presentation aims to give individuals with OCD the knowledge they need to most effectively fight back. This online presentation will also be helpful for friends and family of those who struggle with OCD so they can better understand what helps and what hurts OCD recovery. Healthcare and mental health providers may also benefit from attending.

As a psychologist and therapist in private practice, Dr. Clevey routinely works with and helps clients find freedom from OCD. Throughout this presentation, she will spend time dispelling myths and stereotypes, describing both the biological and behavioral causes of OCD, describing how to create a personalized treatment plan, providing information on what types of treatment to pursue, and suggesting resources for further learning.

Dr. Lilah Clevey completed her doctoral training at Eastern Michigan University. As a therapist, she works with adults across the lifespan specializing in trauma, OCD, anxiety, LGBTQ issues, and relationship concerns. She has completed research projects examining the impact of mentors across the lifespan, along with multiple projects examining perceptions of sexual assault survivors. She is passionate about empowering vulnerable populations and improving the ways in which we communicate. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and is passionate about the therapeutic impact of nature.
