Those of us who know and love Petoskey have a special place in our hearts for our beautiful, sparkling bay. Just being near its shore soothes the spirit. Being in it on a boat, however, brings an entirely different feeling of peace.
But, oh, how quickly it can turn into chaos.
On this year's walking tour, we will meet some of the victims, survivors and heroes, of a few of the worst catastrophes to ever occur in Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. One was called "the most shocking accident which has ever brought sorrow and tears to the people of Northern Michigan."
Please park at the Sheridan Street gate and await instructions on where the tour will begin.
This is a walking tour, lasting a little more than an hour, and will cover a route of just under one mile, and involves a couple of steep hills.
