Preparing honey bees for survival during the winter months in Northern Michigan is one of the most difficult challenges beekeepers face.

This workshop will provide information that will help beekeepers understand what challenges bees go through during the cold months and which techniques can aid bee survival during that time.

  • The important role water plays in winter survival
  • A short history of overwintering beehives in Northern climates
  • The current scientific research and best practices focused on overwintering bees
  • The three most used strategies to overwinter bees
  • A demonstration of how to modify your hive to help the bees survive winter
