Among the values of the Soviet era was the creation of a certain under­standing of the ideal human body. The concept of the healthy worker dominated visuals, athletic programs, and leisure activity. Exploring those influences in creating the "new Soviet Man" gives a perspective into the cul­ture of sports, physical wellbeing, and society's purpose.

Carol Veldman Rudie, Ph.D., is the coordina­tor of outreach educa­tion at the Museum of Russian Art (TMORA) in Minneapolis, where she uses her college

teaching skills to research and present Russian art and culture.
