The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is responsible for Michigan’s nearly 10,000-mile state highway system. comprised of all routes with an M, I, or US designation. It is the backbone of Michigan’s 120,000 miles of highways, roads and streets. James Lake, the communications specialist for MDOT’s North Region and the Mackinac Bridge Authority, will discuss past, current, and upcoming road and bridge projects in northern lower Michigan; strategies the department employs to mitigate the effects of construction; and some of the most common misperceptions about our transportation system.
