Almost every natural landform in northern lower Michigan is the result of glaciation during the Ice Age. Observe and learn about the glacial landforms, post-glacial and modern shorelines, and surficial geology of the Petoskey area on this approximately 1.5 hr. walking tour. The tour starts at the old Northern Lime Co. quarry (Children's fish pond) in Petoskey’s Bayfront Park and proceeds up at the Bear River Valley Recreation Area and back, a round trip distance of about two miles. *If you don't want to walk the entire route, spot a car in the Bear Valley Recreational Area parking lot off of E. Lake Street near where we will cross the footbridge across the Bear River to begin the return loop.
